Beyond Sea
The project explores a restrained approach to a contemporary retail environment, where clarity and atmosphere take precedence over visual complexity.
The space is organized through a system of timber frames, establishing a clear spatial order while maintaining openness. Subtle references to traditional Chinese joinery are introduced within this framework, not as ornament, but as a structural logic that informs proportion and connection.
A soft gradient of warm orange is layered into the background, adding depth and a quiet warmth to the otherwise minimal palette. This undertone enriches the space without becoming visually dominant, allowing the atmosphere to remain calm and composed.
Rather than overtly referencing tradition, the design draws from a more refined sensibility — where balance, proportion, and restraint shape the overall experience. The influence is subtle, closer to a distilled interpretation than a literal expression.
Light is treated as a primary element. A combination of soft ambient illumination and more focused highlights gently defines depth and hierarchy, guiding movement without interruption.
The upper level transitions into a quieter setting, offering a more intimate atmosphere. With reduced brightness and softer contrasts, it extends the experience beyond retail into a space for pause.
Overall, the project is defined by control and restraint — creating a calm, structured environment that supports both function and experience.
