42k The Cantonment
In Penang, 42k The Cantonment is comfortably located in Pulau Tikus, a half-story condominium that is part of a group home of similar size. The main living spaces benefit from this strategic approach. The focus of the residence is on the kitchen and living area spaces, so creating and maintaining key visual connections dictates the internal planning and focus of all elements. The residence features full height glass windows with views of the sea and the city and passing activity. Its owner has an affinity for aesthetics, especially the resulting approach. Stone is used extensively and a soft, complementary palette unifies each space, aiming for quietness and refinement.
An open and connected living, dining and kitchen space anchors the view, and a large and U-shaped kitchen island bench marks the gathering space. While the openness and lightness of the residence is related to its proximity to the dining area, the simple layering of materials and textures ensures that it will endure and continue to function. Velvet and fabric, while wood and stone add a strong balance. A central entrance defines the living area, placing more passive retreat space behind, grouping bedrooms and amenities.
